Most Indian gym owners I talk to assume Mindbody costs about $200 a month based on the public site. The real number — once you add the missing Indian-context pieces — is closer to $560–$700/month. Here is the math.
What the sticker says
Mindbody Standard, US-listed, comes out to roughly $169–$209 per month for a single-location gym up to about 500 members. That is the headline number you find on their site.
What the sticker misses for an Indian gym
1. Payment processing markup (~₹14,000/mo)
Mindbody's integrated payment gateway in India routes through a third party that adds a 1.0–1.5% markup over the bank/UPI cost. On a ₹14L monthly revenue gym, that is ₹14,000 every month of pure pass-through fee with no equivalent on AskFitness, where UPI and Razorpay are at-cost.
2. GST e-invoicing & books (~₹9,500/mo)
Mindbody does not generate Indian e-invoicing IRN. You will need a separate accounting tool (Tally) and a CA who can manually reconcile. ₹3,000/mo for Tally Prime + ₹6,500/mo for the CA retainer is typical.
3. WhatsApp Business tooling (~₹4,500/mo)
Indian gym members ignore email. Mindbody does not natively support WhatsApp Verified Business API in India. So you are paying for a separate WhatsApp sender like Wati or Interakt — call it ₹4,500/mo for a few thousand messages.
4. Branded mobile app (~₹15,000/mo amortised)
Mindbody Branded App is a separate paid SKU in India. Setup is roughly ₹2-3L plus ongoing fees. Spread that across 18-24 months and it is another ₹15K-ish/month.
The all-in number
For a 1,000-member single-location gym in Mumbai or Bengaluru, the realistic monthly cost of running on Mindbody is around ₹54,000–₹62,000/month — once you stack the platform, payment markup, accounting, WhatsApp, and the app.
The same operator runs on AskFitness Growth at ₹14,999/month — flat. UPI at-cost. AskBooks ERP, GST e-invoicing, white-label app, and WhatsApp Verified all included. Try the live ROI calculator on the homepage.
Why this gap exists
Mindbody is an excellent product for the US/UK boutique studio market. Indian operators are not its target customer. The result is that the parts of running a fitness business in India that are most painful — UPI mandates, GST IRN, WhatsApp ops, NRI multi-currency — are exactly the parts Mindbody hasn't shipped natively.
When you compare honestly, the cheaper sticker price is not actually cheaper.
